Alfred Hitchcock in Trujillo

"I look up...I look down. I look up...I look --"

In Hitchcock's Vertigo, while attempting to overcome the title condition (which amounts, in that movie, to fear of heights), the Jimmy Stewart character says these words to himself. The idea is that looking up and looking down are simple actions; there's no need to panic, no matter how high up you are.


Karen and I were saying these words to each other as we walked the ramparts of the castle of Trujillo (another Game of Thrones location). 


As you can see, the inner wall of the ramparts is only about waist high. We don't usually suffer from fear of heights, but we felt it this time, a little. 

The castle was built on top of an even older Moorish fortress. Thus the keyhole entrance. With the tree, a perfect visual composition.

In the town square stands a large, heroic statue of Francisco Pizarro, a native son of Trujillo. You remember Pizarro -- he conquered the Inca Empire. 


I don't think the city is ashamed of him.

For me, the best thing about Trujillo was the lichen:
